What is dermaplaning?

Patients of the Phenix, Arizona community who are interested in enhancing their skin’s appearance while allowing for better penetration of products are welcome to learn more about a procedure available at North Scottsdale Med Spa called dermaplaning.

How does dermaplaning work?

Many patients confuse dermaplaning with dermabrasion, though they are different procedure. Dermabrasion is an exfoliation process, while dermaplaning is a treatment that removes the “peach fuzz” from the face while revealing healthy skin underneath, ensuring better penetration of product and easier makeup application. Dermaplaning is performed by a provider at our practice with a surgical blade. This blade is used to address the vellus hair on the skin. This is the fine, thin hair that covers the face. With removal, patients find that cosmetic wear better with less clumping, and their skin is more accepting of product applications. Dermaplaning is an easy way to enhance the skin quickly.

Where can dermaplaning be performed?

Dermaplaning is only appropriate on the face, and not the nose, neck, or décolleté.

Who is a candidate for dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning can be performed safely on patients of all skin types and ethnicities. However, it is important that patients receive an evaluation first to decide if they are a good fit for this procedure. Patients who have an allergy to nickel may want to avoid undergoing this procedure due to the nickel surgical blade used. Additionally, patients with lesions, raised growth, or inflamed acne should not consider this treatment.

What kind of downtime is required for this procedure?

Dermaplaning doesn’t require recovery or downtime as other procedures might, which allows patients to return to school, work, and other activities immediately following their treatment. To obtain the best results, patients return every four to six weeks for dermaplaning services. Patients can also combine other treatments with dermaplaning for dramatic improvement in their skin’s appearance and health.
