How chemical peels can improve skin texture and tone

At North Scottsdale Med Spa, patients of the Phoenix, AZ community and beyond can obtain quality care from our providers, ensuring beautiful, healthy looking skin. However, there are a wide range of ways in which patients can achieve these results. Our team is dedicated to helping patients learn about options available, including chemical peels.

What are chemical peels?

A chemical peel may sound like a scary treatment, but it’s actually a safe and effective way of addressing poor skin texture and tone. The chemical peel uses a custom blend of chemical ingredients which are applied to the face to stimulate skin cell turnover. Chemical peels range from superficial/light peels to stronger, more aggressive alternatives. Deciding on the one most appropriate for a patient starts with a consultation visit with our providers. During this time, the skin is evaluate and our providers educate patients on the options available to them. Our providers can make recommendations based on the specific needs of the patient, the patient’s current skin tone and texture, and the patient’s budget.

What types of peels are available?

Chemical peels come in a wide range of choices. Peels may have certain active ingredients such as alphahydroxy acid, glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, and phenol peels. AHA peels are the most gentle option, but need to be completed regularly to get the same results as a single TCA peel, which is more aggressive and only requires a single session to achieve results. However, because TCA peels are much stronger, patients will need to take time off of many activities to allow the skin to heal. TCA peels result in more peeling and redness than the more subtle counterparts.
