The Use of Chemical Peels for Treating Poor Texture and Tone of the Facial Skin

Poor skin texture and tone is a common concern amongst the patients who visit North Scottdale Med Spa. Whether patients are dealing with the unwanted signs of aging or want to reduce pore size or redness, treatments can be used to achieve desirable results. For some of our patients, we may make a recommendation of chemical peels.

What is a chemical peel?

One way to enhance the skin is to exfoliate it. During exfoliation, dead skin cells are removed and allow for fresh, more youthful skin to shine through. Additionally, the skin becomes smooth and beautiful. The best way to exfoliate is with chemical peels, which use a custom application of special chemicals to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. The chemical peels are left on the skin for a short period of time before they are rinsed off, and patients will notice the change over the next several days. The skin will begin to slough off the dead skin cells and patients will reveal a more beautiful later of skin underneath.

What types of chemical peels are available?

There are many different strengths of chemical peels that can be used for patients. It is important that patients consult with our providers to determine not only if chemical peels are appropriate for their specific desires, but what type of chemical peel they should use. Mild, more superficial chemical peels may cause some redness but don’t require much for downtime from regular activities. However, patients who want fast results may consider the advantages of a more aggressive chemical peel which can get deeper and provide a more dramatic change to the skin. These patients may want to consider taking several days off from work or social activities as their skin will need time to heal properly.
