What is Juvéderm® XC?
Juvederm XC is the original Juvéderm® dermal filler. First approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in 2006, Juvéderm® and Restylane® have been the world’s most popular dermal fillers. Juvéderm® is classified as a “natural” filler because it is made primarily with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that is responsible for plumping and firming the skin. All of the Juvéderm® and Restylane® fillers (both now have full families of fillers) are hyaluronic acid fillers. When injected beneath a wrinkle, crease, or area of volume loss, the hyaluronic acid in these fillers binds with nearby water molecules to hydrate the skin in the area and add volume.
What is the difference between Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC?
Most people don’t think of their lips when they think of the volume loss that comes with aging. But our lips lose volume, just like our cheeks and other areas. This makes our lips become thinner as we get older. Other women have never been happy with the lack of fullness in their lips. Or they’d like to add definition, especially to the upper lip line.
Juvéderm® Ultra is the answer. Created specifically to add volume to the lips, Ultra gives you back the fuller, rounder lips of your youth. Or, it adds the volume you’ve always wanted. Either way, Ultra will make your lips plump and kissable, and it will erase those annoying vertical lip lines.
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is the same basic formulation at Ultra, but it is made from larger particles, so it is meant to target deep creases and folds around the mouth. Ultra Plus is a good answer for erasing nasolabial folds running from the nose to the corner of the mouth, marionette lines running downward from the corners of the mouth, parentheses lines framing the sides of the mouth, and the vertical barcode lines that form just above the lips. Although it targets the same areas as Juvéderm® XC, its larger particles make Ultra Plus better for deeper creases and folds.
Where can Juvéderm® XC be used?
Despite being the first Juvéderm® filler, this is still the most popular filler in the expanded Juvéderm® line. Juvéderm® XC is used to fill the creases that form around your mouth, predominantly smile lines running from your nose down to the corners of your mouth, parentheses lines that frame the sides of your mouth, and marionette lines that drop downward from the corners of the mouth.
How much filler will I need to use?
All injectables, fillers and neuromodulators (like Botox) are priced by the unit. It’s impossible to know how much Juvéderm® you will need based on a few factors: the depth of the crease or wrinkle, your metabolism, and the thickness and elasticity of your skin in the area. Once we know the areas you seek to treat, we can give you a good idea of how many units of Juvéderm® you’ll need, along with the cost.
How long before I see results with Juvéderm® XC?
All Juvéderm® fillers provide instant results. As soon as they are injected beneath a wrinkle or area of volume loss, the hyaluronic acid instantly binds with nearby water molecules and plumps the skin. Dermal fillers are not like Botox, which takes up to four days to fully relax the injected muscle and take effect.
How long does Juvederm® XC provide results?
Juvéderm® XC treats the wrinkles and lines around your mouth for up to one year. At that point, your body will absorb the hyaluronic acid, the skin will lose volume, and the wrinkle or crease will begin to show once again. Ultra and Ultra Plus also both last about one year.
How Often Do I Need To Receive Follow-Up Juvederm® XC Treatments?
To maintain consistency in your results and wrinkle reduction, you’ll need to plan on having another Juvéderm® XC injection session at about one year. This can vary with different patients, however, as individual metabolism can affect duration. Basically, as soon as you start to see your smile or marionette lines returning, it’s time to call us at North Scottsdale Med Spa and schedule another injection session.
